Important Grant Events Timeline

1862
Grant captures two forts that end up giving him the nickname “Unconditional Surrender Grant” due to how he would only accept that kind of surrender
1863
Grant lead the Vicksburg Campaign that ultimately caused the splitting of Confederate forces.
1864
Grant lead the Overland campaign that was trying to destroy the confederate army and force Lee into surrender however he was not successful but was able to cripple any offensive capability the confederacy had.
1864
Grant becomes the General-in-Chief of the Union army getting the supreme command of all union forces.
1865
Grant leads the Petersburg siege that for nine months crippled what was left of the confederate forces causing Lee to eventually surrender
1865
Grant accepts Lee’s surrender leading to the end of the civil war
